Introduction to Boardmaker
This practical workshop is for people who would like to learn the basics of using Boardmaker for Windows Version 5 software ™ (Mayer-Johnson 2001) to make picture-based communication aids and materials.
Picture based communication aids and materials are useful for people who understand pictures but cannot speak or use speech that is difficult to understand.
This workshop includes information on why and how to use picture-based communication aids, and factors to consider when making a picture-based communication aid for an individual or group.
Participants will have the opportunity to use Boardmaker for Windows Version 5 software™ during the workshop, to make a picture-based communication aid.
Prerequisites:
Basic computer skills ; An interest in working with people who would benefit from the use of picture-based communication aids and materials.
Who attends:
Therapists, teachers, instructors, disability support workers, integration aides, parents, family members, volunteers, anyone who works or lives with children or adults who have complex communication needs and may benefit from the use of picture-based communication aids and materials.
Competencies Gained:
Participants will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the key factors to consider when designing and producing a communication aid using Boardmaker for Windows Version 5 software™ .
- Demonstrated the ability to make a simple communication aid for an individual using Boardmaker for Windows Version 5 software™
