GISS Workshops
Mealtime Assistance ~ Through A Tube

In response to an identified need GISS in Victoria developed a half day workshop suitable for anyone who supports or assists someone with a gastrostomy.
Typically participants are disability support workers, teachers, kindergarten and childcare workers, speech pathologists and dietitians.
Each year around 400 – 450 people attend the workshops which were first offered in 2003.

Presented by GISS staff the workshop is interactive and practical.

The session which is 3.5 hours includes:

    Reasons for gastrostomy
    Emotional and social issues
    Types of tubes
    Care of tube and stoma
    Types of feeds
    Formulas
    Drug administration
    What information you need to obtain from medical team
    Troubleshooting

There are two options for undertaking this training:

  • Attend one of our training calendar sessions.
    Bookings essential.
  • Book a whole service session at a venue of your choice for a maximum of 15 participants. Travel charge may apply if more than one hour.

    Where overnight stay is required this is at expense of the client service.

Please note the maximum number of participants per session is 15

On successful completion of the workshop, which includes a small written assessment and practical assessment, participants will be presented with a certificate.
