GISS Newsletter

GISS produces three newsletters per year. All newsletters are archived and available as reprints one year after publishing date at a minimal cost. Each newsletter contains at least one feature article, state reports, current information and notice of conferences and related events. Paid advertisements may also be placed in the newsletter.

Feeding encouragement program ~ two stories of success... By Maryanne Reid

Rebecca and Liam were both born with Congenital Diaphragmatic hernias, a condition with only a 60% survival rate. Rebecca’s was on the left, while Liam’s was on the right. They were both diagnosed in utero, and both were born at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, before being transported to Princess Margaret Hospital for surgery. Rebecca spent 2 ½ months in hospital while Liam was in hospital for a total of 5 months. Rebecca was operated on when she was 11 days old to repair her hernia, while Liam was 6 days old when he had his first surgery. Unfortunately Liam required surgery again when he was 3 months old as he had reherniated.
