Building Advisory Service (B.A.S.)

Current Project work that the B.A.S. is undertaking

The Building Advisory Service advises on access related issues in new and existing buildings. We have recently been involved in responding to the draft of the new Building Code of Australia and the related Australian Standards for access.

What does the B.A.S. provide?

The B.A.S. provides :

  • A workable solution to access needs
  • Information and advice on building design and facilities
  • Assistance with funding applications for a recommended building design

Who can use the B.A.S.?

The following people can use the B.A.S. :

  • People with a disability who need assistance regarding appropriate building design and/or modifications, as well as any subsequent funding applications.
  • Therapists seeking consultation with experienced specialist staff in relation to building design and access issues.
  • Local government authorities, community agencies and architectural firms who require advice and consultancy services regarding disability-related access and design.

Type of buildings

The B.A.S. can provide advice on the following types of buildings :

  • Residential properties
  • Sites providing services for people with physical and multiple disabilities
  • Public buildings; for example, amenities blocks, swimming pools
  • Commercial properties

Where is the B.A.S. located?

The services will be provided in the most appropriate location; for example, the person's home or relevant building.
