Opera and Jazz at Melbourne’s Open Garden Scheme, Raising funds for Scope
Two of Melbourne’s leading female singers will entertain crowds in the grounds of one of the city’s most beautiful gardens - with proceeds going to support Scope’s own gardening development project.
Traditional English-style garden, “Talandoon” at 12 Kooyongkoot Rd, Hawthorn, will open its gates to the public on Saturday and Sunday, 27-28 October, 2007 as part of Australia’s Open Garden Scheme.
Soprano, Lynore McWhirter, will perform a selection of opera favourites on Sunday 28th at 2pm. She has performed with Opera Australia, The Victoria State Opera and has recorded solo performances with London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Melbourne Jazz singer Madeline Hay will then perform a range of well loved and original songs at 3pm. At the age of only 19, Madeline has already stamped her mark on Melbourne’s music scene and is now concentrating on performances at Jazz clubs and hotels as well her own career as a composer.
Another renowned Hawthorn garden will also be open over the same weekend just a short distance from Talandoon. “The Koot” at 33 Kooyongkoot Rd, Hawthorn will open its gates to the public so people can enjoy both delightful gardens on the same day.
So come along and enjoy a Spring day in two of Melbourne’s stunning gardens, be entertained by world class musicians and enjoy refreshments throughout the day.
The properties will open from 10am - 4.30pm and entry is just $5.00.
The proceeds from the day will be split between Australia’s Open Garden Scheme and Scope, Victoria’s leading disability support organisation. Scope is developing an interactive sensory garden for people with disabilities at their own homes around Victoria. These enable people to enjoy all aspects of gardens and similar projects in the past have proved invaluable. Specially designed gardens created at the Chelsea Centre and at a home in Melbourne’s North West have been enormously popular and successful.
