Scope Research and Ethics Approval
Management Approval Of Research
All research projects that have Scope clients or staff as research participants must have preliminary approval by the organisation's Executive. This is to ensure the research aligns with Scope's Mission and can be adequately resourced by the organisation.
Once approved by the Executive the research will typically require approval from the Scope Ethics Advisory Committee.
Scope Ethics Advisory Committee
Scope has an Ethics Advisory Committee. The role of the Committee is:
- To advise and recommend to Scope on research and ethical matters arising in relation to research involving Scope
- To consider the ethical implications of all proposed research projects and to determine whether or not they are acceptable on ethical and research grounds. The proposed research projects will be those involving human subjects which are to be carried out under the auspices of Scope or which would involve Scope clients as subjects.
- To monitor research projects until completion so as to be satisfied that they continue to conform with approved ethical standards.
- To approve research projects from disability organisations in other states without formal Human Research Ethics Committees, providing that the research project is also being run at Scope Victoria .
Ethics Committee Meetings 2008
The committee meets four times each year. In 2008 meetings are scheduled for:
- 13 February
- 14 May
- 13 August
- 12 November
Meetings are held at 6.00pm . Researchers are typically invited to attend the meeting to discuss their application.
Applications must be sent two weeks before the meeting date to ensure they will be reviewed at that meeting.
