Scope provides support for education providers from early childhood and kindergarten through to primary and secondary schools and tertiary institutions. Scope also offers services to children and young people of school age outside of the school environment.

Services improve learning outcomes, development and inclusion for students with a disability within or outside of school and an educational environment.

Kindergarten and Early Childhood Services

All children’s learning and developmental outcomes are enhanced when all early childhood professionals and families work together to support children.

Scope teams work directly with kindergarten teachers, childcare workers and other early childhood specialists to develop each child’s individual strengths, interests, cultures and abilities.

Our team members include occupational therapists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, teachers and inclusion support specialists, who have experience in:

  • Child development
  • Disability
  • Supporting inclusion into kindergarten and childcare environments
  • Local supports and services. 
  • Transition into school processes

Services for teachers and childcare workers:

  • Consultation
  • Transition support
  • Equipment advice and assistance
  • Referral to other specialists

Services for families

  • Family service coordination
  • Goal setting

Group Programs for children

Children with similar needs can come together for group programs:

  • Communication
  • Sensory-motor
  • Swimming/hydrotherapy
  • Gym groups

Group programs also provide an opportunity for parents and carers to meet and provide support to each other.

Primary and Secondary Schools

Scope provides services to children in government, Catholic and independent primary and secondary schools in the context of the Curriculum Standards Framework. We work with mainstream schools; Specialist Schools and Special Development Schools.

Scope’s occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech pathologists work with the whole school community, teachers, education assistants, individual students and their families

Services improve learning outcomes and inclusion for students with a disability within the school environment.

Support in schools may take the form of:

  • Promoting inclusion of students - Advice about how to include students, modifying the school curriculum and disability awareness training
  • Identification of goals - Individual needs of students are identified within the Curriculum Standards Framework in consultation with the student, school staff and family
  • Planning - Consultation and advice is provided and recommendations are made to key people and students through the Program Support Group
  • Individual sessions  - Consultation, therapy and advice from Scope’s team for students and others in the educational setting in order to meet identified goals 
  • Access and equipment - Assessment, advice and trial of a range of equipment. Recommendations regarding access and building modifications can also be made
  • Transition - Assistance is available to plan for transition from one school to another, from primary to secondary school, and post-school options.

Group workshops and programs for schools

Group workshops and programs are available to staff and students where there are a number of people with similar needs. These are tailored to your individual requirements.

Workshops include:

  • Disability awareness: how to include students in your school and classroom
  • Getting organised and staying focused
  • Sensory processing
  • Fine motor development
  • Handwriting
  • Adapting your PE program
  • Communication for all
  • Manual handling

The topics for student group programs include:

  • Fine motor program
  • Sensory group
  • Developing motor skills
  • Handwriting groups
  • Developing your ability to communicate

Outside of School

Scope offers services to children and young people of school age outside the school environment. These services may be funded or can be purchased from Scope.

These services aim to meet the needs of the student at home or in the community including the need for equipment in the home and accessing community sporting or leisure activities.

Tertiary Institutions

We help students and tertiary institutions to support young people with a disability to be included in further education. In particular:

  • Access to buildings and grounds
  • Access to support with communication for the student
  • Assistance with completing written or computer based requirements
  • Equipment reviews

Scope Young Ambassadors (SYA) 

Scope Young Ambassadors is a youth development, applied learning program available to schools throughout Victoria.

The unique program aims to create more inclusive communities through disability awareness, education and connections with the community.
