How SYA Silver Certificate Projects Work

To register for a SYA Silver “Community Project” certificate please follow the steps below:

1.  Please contact: Emily Buxton-D’Arcy, Community Educator, Mob: 0457 603 961, Email: ebuxtondarcy@scopevic.org.au or Charlie Spendlove, Education Manager, Tel: 03 9843 2052, Mobile: 0457 754878 or Email: cspendlove@scopevic.org.au.

2.  A SYA Community Educator will contact you shortly after, to arrange a time to meet with you to discuss what options are available for you to participate in a SYA Silver Community Project.

3.  Once this meeting has taken place, other potential stakeholders who could be involved in partnering SYA and the young volunteers in a SYA Silver Community Project, will be invited to attend the Consultation/Planning/Collaboration/Creating Partnership phase to:

  • Identify student interests
  • Identify the gaps in their local community or
  • Identify community needs and/or opportunities for potential projects
  • Make links to those community organisations to create strong partnerships so that the project can get up and running

4.  The SYA Community Educator will create a Project Management Framework which includes an overview of who the stakeholders are, their agreed roles and responsibilities, media plans, timelines, budget and resources.

5.  The SYA Community Educator will create a project timetable for all Stakeholders and give the young participants and their staff an online personal secure code to access the My Silver Project web page.  The My Silver Project web page has a SYA Silver Community Project toolkit comprising of templates, documents, information and resources to guide and assist students to evidence their experiences and keep them on track.

6.  Prior to the Project Kick-off, the SYA Community Educator will conduct an induction session where the young participants will receive an understanding of their roles and responsibility in the project.  Young participants will also have the opportunity to meet the other stakeholders involved in their SYA Silver Community Project.

7.  Young people participate in their chosen SYA Silver Community Project for a minimum of 15 hours, this includes their documentation time.

8.  On the completion of those 15 hours, students will be signed off and receive the SYA Silver Certificate from Scope Young Ambassadors.

9.  Students and staff are invited to evaluate their experiences on an online evaluation form found in the SYA Silver Community Project toolkit.
