Communication and Behaviours of Concern (BOC)
This workshop will discuss the importance of recognising and understanding an individual’s communication skills when developing and implementing behavior support plans.
Individuals who have difficulties in communicating with others may use behaviours that are a concern to themselves and those around them. Professionals working in the disability sector are asked to write positive behaviour support plans to assist individuals who engage in Behaviours Of Concern (BOC). This one-day workshop will discuss the importance of recognizing and understanding an individual’s communication skills when completing a Functional Behaviour Analysis and developing a positive behaviour plan. Communication strategies to change the environment, teach skills and introduce short term change will be discussed. Participants will be encouraged to recognise and reflect the communication of both the individual and their communication partners within a behaviour support plan. Resources presented will fit comfortably with the framework used by the Office of the Senior Practitioner for people who engage in Behaviours of Concern.
Audience
Disability Support Workers, Therapists and interested others.
