What is Easy English?

Easy English is simplified written information, making documents clear and easy to read, so that a wide range of people can access information they need now.

There are four elements that are essential for good quality Easy English writing:

  • Language
  • Layout
  • Image selection
  • Consumer

Easy English supports people with limited literacy to understand written information on a day to day basis.

Who needs information written in Easy English? 

  • people with an intellectual disability 
  • people with acquired disabilities
  • people aging
  • people with mental health issues
  • people with limited education
  • people for whom English is not their first language
