School Age Services

Services increase learning outcomes and inclusion for students with a disability.

Scope support approximately 300 schools across Victoria in providing services. 

Examples of services include:

  • Focus on individuals and consider flexible approaches to meeting the needs of students
  • Assist schools to facilitate the inclusion of young people within their school and community
  • Work in partnership with students, school staff and families

Facilitated by a range of skilled and experienced staff including physiotherapists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and psychologists services include:

  • Identification of Needs - Individual needs of students are identified in consultation with the student, school staff and family.
  • Planning - Through the Program Support Group, consultations are given and recommendations are made to key people and students.
  • Promoting Inclusion - Working with school staff, this may be done by providing advice about inclusive practices, modifying the school curriculum and disability awareness training.
  • Individual Sessions - Consultation, therapy and advice from our specialist services team for students and others in the educational setting.
  • Group Programs and Workshops - These are available to students and staff where a number of people with similar needs join together. The following 'packages' can be offered as staff development or small group programs: Introduction to Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Integration, Sensory Motor Handwriting, Managing a student with hemiplegia in the classroom, Optimising function for students with physical disabilities, Modifying the Physical Education program in schools, Getting organised at school, Pool activities, Manual handling and Preparing for surgery.
  • Access and Equipment - Assessment, advice and trials of a range of equipment, and recommendations regarding access and building modifications.
  • Transition - Assistance is available to plan for transition from one school to another, from primary to secondary school, and after-school options.
