GISS Workshops

In response to an identified need GISS in Victoria developed a half day workshop suitable for anyone who supports or assists someone with a gastrostomy or jejunostomy. Participants include disability support workers, teachers, kindergarten and childcare workers, speech pathologists, dietitians, family and friends of people who have a gastrostomy or jejunostomy.

The competency based session includes:

  • Reasons for gastrostomy or jejunostomy
  • Emotional and social issues
  • Types of tubes
  • Care of tube and stoma
  • Methods of delivery
  • Formulas
  • Modified medication management
  • Information to seek from medical team
  • Troubleshooting

On successful completion of the workshop, which includes a theory and practical assessment, participants will be presented with a certificate.

There are two options for undertaking this training:

  • Attend one of our Training calendar sessions. Bookings essential.
  • Book a whole service session at a venue of your choice for a maximum of 15 participants.
