Board
Alasdair Norton
Appointed to the Board of Directors in 2004. Alasdair is Board President, Chair of the People and Governance Committee and a member of all Board Advisory Committees. He holds an MA in Engineering, Economics and Management from Oxford University.
Alasdair is Chairman of Marsden Jacob Associates, an economic, strategic and public policy consulting firm. He serves as a Board or committee member for a number of not-for-profit groups.
Mark Burrowes
Elected to the Board in 2009. Vice President, Chair of the Strategic Alliance Committee and member of the Finance and People and Governance Committees. Mark is the parent of a young man with cerebral palsy, and his son accesses Scope services along with other disability services.
Mark is a former member of several not for profit Boards, including the Reach Foundation, The Starlight Children’s Foundation, Belmore Road School and Managing Director of Medibank Private. He has a thirty year career in corporate management and his most recent position was as Chief Executive Officer of Mitre 10.
David Lloyd Jones
Appointed to the Board in 2011. Treasurer and Member of the Finance and Fundraising Committees. He holds a Bachelor of Business from Swinburne University and is a qualified Chartered Practise Accountant. David has an extensive background in managing small to medium sized businesses.
He is currently a director of a number of private companies in the food, industrial equipment and engineering industries.
Christian Astourian
Christian Astourian works full time as a coordinator for Diversity and Disability, which is a self advocacy program for people with a disability from a non English speaking background run from the Migrant Resource Centre North West in St Albans. Christian is Deputy Vice President and a member of the People and Governance Committee. He fluently speaks 4 languages.
He sits on the Disability Advisory Committee for the Melbourne City Council and the State government Disability Service Board with the Disability Service Commissioner. He is also a board member for Arts Access Victoria and at federal level he is the chairperson of the disability advisory committee for the Federation of Ethnics Community Councils of Australia.
Janet Torode
Elected to the Board in 2007. Member of the People and Governance and Strategic Alliance Committees. The parent of a daughter with disabilities, Janet has been an advocate for people with a disability for over 20 years and is actively involved on regional disability committees. She is a paediatric dietitian who works as a senior clinician in an Early Childhood Intervention Service for the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Rod O’Loan
Elected to the Board in 2007. Member of the Finance and People and Governance Committees. With a degree in Economics, Rod has an extensive background in management and logistics and, prior to his retirement, held senior management positions.
Since retiring he now serves as an advisor and committee member for a number of not-for-profit organisations.
Robert Bowen
Elected to the Board in 2008, having previously served as a Director for two years from 2005, Robert is Chair of the Fundraising Committee. Robert is a Director of a national residential building company.
He is experienced in both finance and operations management and has a history of involvement with successful fundraising activities for charitable institutions.
Louis Lachal
Appointed to the Board in 2009. Member of the Finance and Strategic Alliance Committees. Louis was previously Managing Director of the Amcor Australasia Group. He has held many senior management roles, both commercial and operational, within Australia and overseas.
Karen Cleave
Appointed to the Board in 2009. Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee and member of the Strategic Alliance Committee. Karen is the Chief Executive of the State Services Authority, and has had a career with the Victorian government since the mid 1980s, joining from the Commonwealth Public Service. Karen has worked in Community Services and Health, Treasury, Education and the Premier’s Department. Her roles have covered program policy development and delivery such as Disability Services and Primary Care.
Wendy Brooks
Appointed to fill a casual elected vacancy on the Board in 2011. Member of the Fundraising Committee. Wendy holds a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Laws (Hons). Wendy Brooks is National Head of Business Development, The Trust Company. This recent appointment comes after a 15 year career in marketing and fundraising in the not for profit sector. A keen interest in charity law reform and human rights informs Wendy’s involvement as Director of a number of Boards and member of the Ministerial Disability Advisory Council. Since acquiring a neuro-muscular condition in 2000 Wendy has used a wheelchair, which has given Wendy’s family an insight into living with a disability.
