See the Person Week and ‘Rudely Interrupted’ are Rocking Schools across Victoria during May
Primary and Secondary schools across Victoria are signing up to participate in Scope’s ‘See the Person Week’ held for the first time this year, May 17 – 21, 2010.
'See the Person' Week is designed to encourage students and the wider community to see the person not the disability.
Teaming up with rock outfit Rudely Interrupted, schools signing up will receive a tool kit that includes a DVD featuring the band, for airplay in assembly during See the Person Week, as well as fundraising wristbands to help Victorian’s living with a disability to reach their full potential.
By selling wrist bands at school and raising money, students can help Scope fund a Day Leisure Break accompanied by a Scope support staff member for $220 or $515 will fund an Overnight Break accompanied by a Scope support staff member and $1526 can fund a Weekend Camping Trip accompanied by a Scope support staff member.
As the Ambassador’s for Scope ‘See the Person Week’, Rudely Interrupted will not only feature in the DVD available to all schools but they will release a new single ‘Close My Eyes’ for the event with all profits donated to Scope.
According to Diana Heggie, CEO Scope, See the Person Week will be furthered enhanced with the support of Scope’s Young Ambassadors program.
“Scope Young Ambassador students are also profiled in the DVD and explain why See The Person Week is important. We have students from over 100 schools across Victoria who have committed their time and energy in helping us create an inclusive community though disability awareness and education.
“Many of these students will be leading the charge during See the Person Week by creating respect, understanding and acceptance of others as well as raising awareness and understanding of the lives of people with a disability, not only in their school’s but throughout their local community,” said Ms Heggie.
Scope is one of the largest providers of services to people with a disability in Victoria, and one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in Australia. Their mission is to support people with a disability to achieve their potential in welcoming and inclusive communities.
Rudely Interrupted will officially launch ‘See the Person Week at Melbourne High on Monday May 17 with a live performance to students as well as the debut of the DVD on offer to schools across Victoria.
Close My Eyes is from their new album Tragedy of the Commons and will be released on May 20, with a single launch at the Corner Hotel and a tour of the USA and Canada in June.
The USA Tragedy of the Commons tour includes the VSA International Arts Festival at the Kennedy Centre, Washington DC where they are the only Australian band performing, NXNE Music Festival in Toronto and performances in Montreal and New York.
