National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week
Sunday 31 July – Saturday 6 August 2011
To celebrate National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week, Scope is asking Australians to make their community more inclusive, more accessible and more welcoming for people living with Cerebral Palsy.
“John Hughes of MasterChef fame is a perfect example of how people living with Cerebral Palsy make valuable contributions to the workforce, schools, sports and arts each and every day,” said Diana Heggie, Scope CEO and Cerebral Palsy Australia President.
“National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week helps to put the spotlight on these contributions and to inspire those who are striving to leave their mark on the world – regardless of how big or small.”
“National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week highlights that with the right support people with Cerebral Palsy can and do reach their potential, despite the economic, physical and attitudinal barriers often faced.”
Cerebral palsy affects more than 34,000 people Australia-wide.
Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week is celebrated annually across Australia to recognise the achievements of people with cerebral palsy and to create awareness, understanding and acceptance.
