Melinda Smith starring in Perfectly Imperfect
For immediate release: Monday 7th June 2010
WHO: Melinda Smith, from Mooroolbark, knows first hand the impact of making a difference in her community. Having been born with cerebral palsy she has worked at Scope as Scope’s Community Development Worker for the past eight years.
WHAT: Melinda is a member of Wheel Women, a group of women who use wheelchairs in daily life. From June 17 – Saturday 19th June Melinda will perform through dance and play in Perfectly Imperfect.
This highly emotive dance-drama takes a no-holds-barred look at the ethics of parenthood for women with disability.
Kate, a mother with cerebral palsy, invites her son’s three wheely aunts to his 15th birthday. What should be a celebration of ‘miracle’ boy’s life, disintegrates into recrimination and hostility, triggering revelations of long hidden secrets, repressed memories and personal tragedies.
Through Melinda’s involvement with Perfectly Imperfect she is encouraging the community to see the person and not the disability.
WHERE: Lawler Studio, Melbourne Theatre Company, Southbank Blv. Southbank.
