Communicating Pain – A Priority!
Scope has been awarded $25,000 by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund to undertake research to identify barriers in the communication of pain, and establish procedures for early diagnosis and effective monitoring of pain.Recent survey findings have established that many people who access Scope services are not able to communicate about pain in a way that is easily understood.
Many people with serious communication difficulties often have great difficulty signalling the onset of pain and the degree of pain that they are experiencing.
“This project aims to radically improve the management and alleviation of pain for many people with disabilities” Diana Heggie, Scope CEO said.
The funding for this project will allow Scope to take an important first step in addressing this highly complex health issue.
“This work will enhance the development of resources to significantly improve the health and well-being of people with disabilities” Ms Heggie said.
