Caroline Chisholm Catholic College Wins Disability Service Award
Caroline Chisholm Catholic College has been recognised for its outstanding effort to promote community inclusion for people with a disability. The students, who teamed up with Scope Chis-Lon Lifestyle Options clients to go to Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre, were presented with a Scope Community Partnership Award at the Telstra Dome on Friday, November 7.
As part of the Scope Young Ambassadors Program, the school supported the clients to participate in a range of health promotion activities during the Gym Junkies project.
The project aimed to provide opportunities for Scope clients to participate in health and wellbeing activities at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre as well as promoting the rights of people with a disability to access healthy lifestyle options.
College principal Michael Quin said the partnership had offered students a valuable personal development opportunity.
``The college is proud to have established a successful community partnership with Scope. Our students have gained awareness about community inclusion for people with a disability and for some students, the field of community service has become an attractive career option,’’ Mr Quin said.
``We are especially proud of the 2007 Scope and Caroline Chisholm Catholic College initiative regarding Gym Junkies, which is now a successful state-wide program.’’
For the past 60 years, Scope has been committed to empowering children and adults with disabilities to reach their potential.
