Better Lives for Young People in Nursing Homes

Scope is a major service provider working with the Department of Human Services to support young people in nursing homes move to more appropriate housing.

As part of the “My Future My Choice” program the Department of Human Services (DHS) in July 07 awarded a tender to Scope in partnership with Melbourne Affordable Housing to provide accommodation and support to six Young People in Nursing Homes currently living in the Eastern Region of Melbourne.

A community based housing and support model was designed to support the six individuals to move from nursing home accommodation.   This housing model ensures that young people with disabilities are included in the community and not isolated in a segregated community where they would be isolated.

An interim housing arrangement has been put in place in Balwyn to support the six young people in nursing homes immediately while the capital development project takes place.
