Bendigo Local Wins Prestigious Disability Services Award

Bendigo resident Marie Robinson’s outstanding dedication to creating opportunities for people with a disability has been recognised with a prestigious industry award.

The Golden North Day and Lifestyle Options Volunteers Coordinator was presented with Scope’s annual Staff Award at the Telstra Dome on Friday, November 7.

Golden North Day and Lifestyle Options, run by leading Victorian disability service provider Scope, supports people with disabilities to reach their potential.

Ms Robinson began her long relationship with Scope in 1968, then the Spastic Children’s Society, as a parent of a child with cerebral palsy.

For 10 years, the local parent worked tirelessly supporting her son on hospital and therapy trips to Melbourne, as well as other parents.

Ms Robinson was also a valued Parents and Friends Committee member, and in the 1970s the local resident was presented with a Life Governor Award.

Sadly, her son passed away and Ms Robinson took a break from Scope.

In 1983, Ms Robinson joined Scope’s staff in Bennett St, Bendigo.

While her working hours over the years have increased and decreased with roles, her passion for the job, both in a voluntary and paid capacity, has remained high.

Volunteering is a way for people to become actively involved in their community while developing their own personal potential.

Scope Day and Lifestyle Options provide a range of centre-based and community-based programs for people with disabilities.

Programs include educational and recreational activities such as; computer skills, life skills, personal development and well being, leisure activities and creative arts.

For the past 60 years, Scope has been committed to empowering children and adults with disabilities to reach their potential.
