Band hits right note at Grace Berglund Centre
Scope’s Grace Berglund Centre in Warragul is set to hit the right note again this year. After a successful evening of fine food and music late last year, more festivities are now being planned for the people who use residential, day, respite and individual services at the centre, along with their families and support staff.
One of the incredible aspects has been the contributions made by individuals and community based groups.
A young Scope volunteer, Marcus asked if his band could come and play at last years evening event, as the Melbourne group wanted some additional performance practice.
“Not only did Scope get the band, but their friends from Melbourne and several parents of band members who had never seen their children perform’” Scope’s Regional Manager, Gippsland, Tina Dent said.
“The performance was fantastic, enhanced by the additional percussion instruments played by audience members. Everyone got into it, especially during a song which required the audience to perform vocal ‘riffs’ – and did they ever.” Ms Dent said.
Another music based event involving the band is now being planned.
The success of last year’s event was also the participation of a number of groups.
The local Community Kitchens Program organized catering for the evening, resulting in a spectacular array of salad, desserts and fruit platters. A local primary school donated the use of its commercial BBQ and another, its PA system for the evening.
“We are very excited about the prospect of more exciting opportunities and very happy that the band and other supporters have been so active in making our celebrations so special,” Ms Dent said.
