It’s grand final time for Balloon Football
WHO: People living with a disability who Scope supports together with students from Nazareth College.
WHAT: After a twenty-two week season players from the Balloon Football League and students from Nazareth College are looking forward to their much anticipated grand final on Thursday 7th October starting at 10.30am.
Balloon Football follows Australian Rules football and is a great sport for players of all abilities to fine tune their Balloon Football skills and meet new people.
The games are played on an indoor basketball court with players using either electric or manual wheelchairs. Students from Nazareth College have been on hand for the 2010 season supporting the players through the game.
The Scope Young Ambassadors Balloon Football League (BFL) Project has been developed in partnership with students participating in the Scope Young Ambassadors program at Nazareth College, Springers Leisure Centre and the Scope Community Development and Inclusion Team.
Balloon Football is a chance for students from Nazareth College and people with a disability to get to know one another while participating in a fun, social and competitive sport.
The students contacted the Westpac Waverley Gardens branch who agreed to donate personalised t-shirts for each BFL player. Bank Manager Marty Oke, and his staff have continued to support the Balloon Football League by attending matches and assisting with the grand final preparations.
The grand final will be a day all participants and supporters won’t forget. The students from Nazareth College have organised half time entertainment, cheer squads, team banners and awards to hand out at the end of the day.
“Scope would like to thank Nazareth College’s students and teachers together with Westpac Waverley Gardens branch for their support of the Balloon Football League. They recognise the importance of the game to all the players and have the same passion to promote the game to their fellow students and the broader community.” said Diana Heggie, Scope CEO.
