6 months on and Aleacia is on her way
Scope client, 3 1/2 year old Aleacia was fitted with a specially designed walking frame, a Hart Walker in October 2009, 6 months later she is enjoying her new found independence.
Aleacia and her family attended the ‘Walk for an Aussie Kid” Picnic at Navan Park, Melton on Sunday 18 April. The picnic organized by the Lions Club raised additional funds to allow further Hart Walkers to be purchased for children like Aleacia.
There was also a walkathon around the lake together with a race for Gokids clients who use Walkers.
After taking her first independent steps last October, Aleacia who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 1 loves the freedom that her Hart Walker has brought her.
“It was an amazing moment when Aleacia was fitted with the Hart Walker in October. We didn’t realize how tall she was until she stood up. The smile on her face is priceless when she is walking” said Leanne, Aleacia’s mum.
“We as a family couldn’t have got through what we have been through if it hadn’t been for Scope. Scope makes things so much easier”.
Hart Walkers are provided by GoKids Mobility Advisory, the Children’s Mobility Advisory Service of Scope.
“Being able to walk is a skill we all take for granted,” said GoKids Coordinator, Elise Rizzo. “But to these children it means being able to play with their friends and to generally live a full and active life just like any other child. “We are looking forward to the children coming together on Sunday who have been fitted with a Walker over the past 3 years”.
Scope relies on the support from organisations like the Lions Club and donations from the public to be able to provide walkers to children like Aleacia.
