Scope Welcomes Access Travel Pass
SCOPE has welcomed the new public transport Access Travel Pass, saying it could provide more opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the community.
Scope CEO Diana Heggie said the travel card, designed for people with permanent disabilities which prevent them from reaching ticket machines or barriers as well as people with intellectual disabilities, was a positive step towards making public transport accessible to more Victorians.
She said the new system would encourage more people with disabilities to access public transport, allowing them to enjoy more independence and choices about when and where they travelled.
Ms Heggie said the card also took the worry out of using public transport for the eligible people who had previously feared being fined for not having a ticket, or being able to validate their ticket.
``This new system is a great example of how to provide better support for people with disabilities to access transport and the broader community,’’ Ms Heggie said.
``Scope strives to identify opportunities that promote inclusive and welcoming communities for people with disabilities, and we will continue to welcome any progress that creates equal accessibility to all Victorians,’’ she said.
More Information about eligibility and application forms will be available from September at: www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au.
