Sensory Garden Waterfall Feature
A waterfall feature donated and installed by Waterscapes Australia has become a focal point at the Knox Lifestyle Options Access Sensory Garden.
The feature was installed by designer Patrick Handley of the Brisbane-based company as part of a workshop for landscaper gardeners following their exhibition at the recent Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
The Access Sensory Garden had been shaping up as an outdoor space for people of all abilities to enjoy, with sensory aspects for people with dual sensory impairment.
A pathway and tracking rail leads people past a dry creek bed, sensory shelter and around to an Aboriginal themed tactile wall. A panelled screen will provide interest and soften traffic noise.
The waterfall has been installed in a retaining wall which surrounds a deck and bridge covered by a large shade sail donated by the Rotary Club of Wantirna.
Swinburne Horticulture Design students developed the garden plan as part of their curriculum and chose a variety of native plants for their drought tolerance and sensory appeal.
A working bee held over winter saw the garden come to life and the installation of native art has transformed the space ready for a grand opening toward the end of the year.
Knox Lifestyle Options acknowledges the generous support of the Horticulture Therapy Association of Victoria, Waterscapes Australia, Banksia Garden Supplies Swinburne Wantirna, Holmesglen Glen Waverley and Knox Centre Association.
