National Disability Insurance Scheme - take action

Scope has joined a Coalition of groups representing people with a disability, families and service providers who have come together to push for the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Frustrated by years of neglect and underfunding by successive governments, the Coalition has decided a strong collective voice is required to ensure the needs of Australians with a disability and their families are finally heard.

The scheme would provide assistance to all people with a significant disability, no matter how their disability was acquired. It would put an end to the current inequities that see people receiving different levels of support depending on how, when and where their disability was acquired. It would focus on providing those supports and services which maximise opportunities for independence and participation.

Scope has joined the cause because we believe this scheme has the potential to transform the lives of Australians living with a disability and their families.

NDIS would provide funding for early intervention, essential care, support, therapy, aids and equipment, home modifications and training. The scheme would be funded by all taxpayers through general revenue or through a Medicare-type levy.

After decades of providing support to people with a disability, Scope is proud to be part of an advocacy campaign supporting equity and entitlement for all Australians with a disability.
