Anne is Making a Difference
My name is Anne, and I love using my skills to help those around me. Every Wednesday, I work as a volunteer at the Delahey Community Centre.
I already go to yoga there, so it seemed like a good opportunity to help out for one hour each week before my class started.
Like many other people with Cerebral Palsy, transport plays a very important part of my life as I don’t drive.
To get to the centre, I rely on a bus provided by Scope or taxis. While I’m there, I lend a hand in the kitchen, water plants and shred paper. I especially enjoy shredding paper, so I now also have a shredder at home to help out my family members and friends.
I am the eldest of eight children, and my family and friends are very important to me. The best part of volunteering at the community centre is being able to put my skills to use. I am very social and love music – especially Neil Diamond – and the centre is a great place to interact with a wider circle of people.
I hope that my story will show other people living with Cerebral Palsy and the community that we can all make a difference in our worlds. Click here to see how other people with Cerebral Palsy are making a difference.
