International Day of People with Disability - 3 December 2010
Scope was involved in a number of activities to help mark International Day of People with Disability.
International Day of People with Disability is celebrated worldwide each year; the day aims to promote an understanding of people with a disability and encourages support for their dignity, rights and well-being.
Over 60 people living with a disability from Scope and Wyndham City celebrated International Day of People with Disability at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
Everyone had the opportunity to experience a ‘slice of Africa’ as they celebrated the day.
The day included heading out on a safari tour to spot rhinos, giraffes, hippos, zebras and antelopes grazing on the savannah.
Rosa and Robbie also enjoyed being able to feed some giraffes. For Rosa “I had a great time at Werribee Zoo, I got to see the monkeys and lots of other animals. My highlight was feeding the giraffes, it felt beautiful”.
Westfield Plenty Valley went blue for Scope as they held Blue Day to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.
A number of activities were held during the day including a giant sausage sizzle and the opportunity to purchase Scope merchandise.
Funds raised on Blue Day will go towards Scope’s new respite facility in Whittlesea.
With the City of Whittlesea generously agreeing to a lease at a peppercorn rate for 30 years, Scope is now working on fundraising activities to support the construction and furnishing of a 6 bedroom respite facility.
