Grand Final time for Balloon Football League

After a 22 week season the much anticipated Grand Final for the Balloon Football League (BFL) was held in early October.

Balloon Football follows Australian Rules Football and is a great sport for players of all abilities to fine tune their skills and meet new people.

The games are played on an indoor basketball court with players using either electric or manual wheelchairs.

Year 12 students from Nazareth College, participating in the Scope Young Ambassadors, Disability Education Program, as part of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), have been on hand for the 2010 season supporting the players at each game.

The Scope Young Ambassadors Balloon Football League Project (SYA BFL Project) has been developed in partnership with students participating in the Scope Young Ambassadors program at Nazareth College, Springers Leisure Centre and the Scope Community Inclusion and Development Team.

Balloon Football is a chance for students and people with a disability to get to know one another while participating in a fun, social and competitive sport.

The Grand Final was a day all participants and supporters won’t forget. It was played between Chelsea Sharks and The Blues, with The Blues winning an exciting game by one point.

The students organised half time entertainment, cheer squads, team banners and awards which were presented on the day.

Following on from the success of the season, the students who participated in the SYA BFL Project organised an exhibition match at their school for their fellow students with the BFL All Stars vs the Naz Boyz.
