Scope Young Ambassador’s aims to:

  • Create respect, understanding and acceptance of others
  • Raise awareness and understanding of the lives of people with a disability
  • Enhance communication and leadership skills

Program Overview

SYA learning outcomes are based on the principles of good practice in youth development and meet the requirements of a number of community partnership agreements.

Professionally delivered by a team of Scope Field Officers, SYA is supported by Scope services throughout Victoria to meet individual school requirements. Over 100 Secondary schools throughout Victoria and 15 Primary Schools in the Barwon area have been involved in the program.

Many of the participating schools offer SYA as part of Advance or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). SYA is mapped to VCAL PDS Units 1 & 2 at Foundation, Intermediate and Senior levels.  Students can obtain a bronze or silver certificate by completing SYA modules.

A ‘hands on’ approach in seeing the person

Since SYA was introduced in 2000, students continue to respond well to the ‘hands on’ approach that SYA provides. Workbooks continually document how students views have changed through participation in SYA. Perceptions change to view people with a disability different where they see the person not the disability.

SYA Bronze Certificate Optional Activities

Students can select a range of interesting optional activities as part of the SYA Bronze Certificate. The activities are taken from the manual that is included with the program. SYA Student Activities.
