A Better Start for Children with Disability

Mother and child readingScope provides services for families eligible for the Better Start for Children with Disability Initiative (Better Start).

Better Start provides eligible children with access to up to $12,000 (up to $6000 per financial year) for early intervention services. Better Start is funded by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.

Who can access Better Start?

Children up to the age of 6 years, who have a diagnosis of:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Down syndrome
  • Fragile X
  • Hearing impairment
  • Sight impairment.

Families will have until their child turns seven to use Better Start the early intervention funding.

What is available through Scope?

Scope provides additional therapy to help your child develop and learn. Scope offers services in your local community, across Victoria.

These may include:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Psychology
  • Speech Pathology
  • Education.

Scope services can be individual or in groups, and can be delivered where you need it. This might be in one of our offices, in your home or in your child’s kindergarten, childcare centre or school.
