Program Overview
Scope Young Ambassadors learning outcomes are based on the principles of good practice in youth development and meet the requirements of a number of community partnership agreements.
Scope Young Ambassadors is professionally delivered by a team of Scope Field Officers and is supported by Scope services throughout Victoria to meet individual school requirements.
During 2006 Scope Young Ambassadors will be successfully delivered to over 100 Secondary schools throughout Victoria and 15 Primary Schools in the Barwon area.
Many of the participating schools offer SYA as part of Advance or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
SYA is mapped to VCAL PDS Units 1 & 2 at Foundation, Intermediate and Senior levels.
Bronze Certificate Requirements:
Students attend two interactive sessions (delivered by a trained SYA Field Officer), complete SYA Workbook Modules 1 & 2 and participate in Community Service activities. The Community Service activities at Scope are supported by the SYA Field Officer and supervised by Scope staff and employees when participating at Scope Services. Students document Community Service activities in the SYA Workbook.
Silver Certificate Requirements:
Silver Certificate is offered to students who have completed the Bronze Certificate. Students complete SYA Modules 3, 4, or 5 and complete an additional 15 hours Community Service (can be a group project). Please note modules 6 & 7 are not a certificate requirement but are available upon request.
Resources
SYA learning modules (listed below) encourage students to explore a variety of life skills:
1. Disability & Diversity
2. Communicating Successfully with Others
3. Leadership
4. Community Connecting at a Local Level – available upon registration of Silver Certificate

Outcomes
Students respond well to the "hands on" approach to learning SYA provides and often document in their workbooks that they will view people with disabilities differently from now on, "seeing the person first", not the disability.
